Song Of The Day: “Infatuations Never Last”
Ahhh…the first day back from a long holiday. What a drag. Perhaps a song can brighten it. But not this one…it’s not exactly “Sunshine & Lollipops”, is it?
Having said that, we did feel strongly enough about this song to make it the lead-off track on our new album, The Deep End. Have I mentioned enough times that we have a new album coming out on January 19th? Have you had enough?
So anyway…this tune was kinda fun to record. It’s one of those kitchen sink things. It’s got backwards piano, Tom making jokes, me babbling into a mic about something, tacos being eaten (seriously), our Russian friend Eugene, overdriven drums that sound like trashcans, etc etc. Sluthye came up with some gorgeous piano melodies, very reminiscent of Steve Nieve from the Attractions. Great Steve’s think alike, I guess. Tom’s drumming at the end of the song is pretty spectacular. And Eric’s pretty good too. I got nothing against Eric.
If you listen closely in the final seconds, you can hear me dropping my Telecaster on the floor. It’s okay though. I used the cheap one for that take.
