Song Of The Day: “The Fine Art Of Bleeding”

Who says you have to take your time in the studio? For all of our snail-pacing over the course of a year making a record, this short blast was the easiest and fastest, from conception to completion. It was done in a single session…all of it. Tom and I discussed making our own sonic tribute to My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless one morning, and I wrote this song in about five minutes on the spot. We stacked about twenty guitar and vocal tracks to create the wall of noise, then added bass and drums, and there it was. In two hours. Done and done.

Thanks to Don Cento for that awesome, goofy image. We were, at one point, going to name the album after this song, and this was Don’s first idea for the sleeve. Perhaps it’ll be our breakthrough international hit single.

I’m just glad the song wound up on the album. It was such a sore thumb sonically, I wasn’t sure it would fit. But we made it work. There was, of course, the age-old debate of “does this sound too much like them? ” And all I can say to that is “who cares, at this point?” It’s only shallow rock and roll. We’re not trying to reinvent it.

Seriously. Sometimes you just gotta let it flow.
