Song Of The Day: “Pipe Dream”

Okay, so…finally, here’s some Slack music for you. I’ll start by posting a song a day from the new album, and then I’ll just start posting random stuff. Seems easy enough.

This is “Pipe Dream”…we recorded the basic track about a year ago…hell, I wrote it in 2007…it took us a little while to figure out the best approach for the intro…we started with an electric guitar, and then discussed possibly using a pipe organ, before finally settling on the sparse acoustic. Eric wanted it to be Stones-y. I wanted it to kick a little harder. It’s about as straight-forward as a song can be. There’s a backward guitar tuned to “drop A” that makes a big noise near the end. On the album, it segues directly to the next track, called “The Rug”. Nobody’ll ever notice with their i-Pods, right?

In addition to the fantastic Russian accent of a violinist named Eugene, it features Eric Neal on bass, Steve Luthye on organ and piano, Tom Bridwell on drums and percussion, and myself on guitars, vocals, and fisted washing machine.
